The Blue Planet Prize 2023🏆

Prof. Debarati Guha-Sapir, who is a long-time friend and mentor for ADRRN, received the Blue Planet Prize from the Asahi Glass Foundation on 4 October 2023 in Tokyo Japan. The Blue Planet Prize was established in 1992, the year of the Earth Summit, as an award to individuals or organizations from around the world in recognition of outstanding achievements in scientific research and its application that have helped provide solutions to global environmental problems.

Prof. Sapir’s outstanding contribution in the field of disaster risk reduction enabled us to take evidence-based approaches in reducing risks with the most vulnerable communities around the globe. She is the Founder Director of the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) at Université Catholique de Louvain. She founded and led the development of the Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT), the first data infrastructure of global disasters triggered by climate change.

ADRRN would like to whole-heartedly congratulate Debby for this global recognition of her dedication and commitment. We are truly proud of her achievement.
