A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Flores region of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, on 15 August 2026 at 5:58 a.m. WITA. The offshore epicentre was approximately 30 km northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, at a depth of 15 km. A tsunami warning was issued for parts of eastern Indonesia and later lifted by BMKG at 08:31 WITA.
Preliminary BNPB data reported one death and four injuries, while around 2,000 people in Nagekeo self-evacuated. Damage has been reported to homes, public buildings, health facilities, infrastructure and roads. Aftershocks continue to be reported.
YAKKUM Emergency Unit (YEU) is stepping up its initial response, working with local partners to assess needs and identify priority areas. The planned response includes rapid needs assessments, mobile health services, distribution of shelter kits and emergency lighting, and Psychological First Aid, with an initial focus on Manggarai and Nagekeo Regencies.
YEU is also coordinating with local partners, including FREN, and humanitarian actors to monitor the situation and support affected communities as further needs emerge.
