The Province of Maidan Wardak, though located in the proximity of Kabul, is one of the poorest provinces of Afghanistan. The province has experienced natural disasters, drought and a rise of insurgency by the non-state actors since last 15 years, which has tremendously affected the lives of men, women and children of the province especially in the districts of Behsud 1, Daymirdad, Sayedabad, and Jaghatu. The residents of the province are too needy and highly vulnerable especially in the sectors of food security, Health, living conditions, Education, Agriculture Irrigation, Nursery and Livestock. Moreover, the drought and absence of snow and rainfall in the last three years had contributed further to the rising poverty and high levels of food insecurity in the province.
In the light of above information, STARS with the financial support of WFP, implemented this project in order to increase food security levels of the most vulnerable populations through the distribution of food among the poor rural people of 4 districts of the Province.
The project targeted an estimated 1510 Recipients, particularly the poorest of the poor families, living in Behsud 1, Daymirdad, Jaghatu and Sayedabad districts in Maidan Wardak Province. The Food Assistance helped affected households to meet their immediate and long term food need in the province.
