Recent updates from STAR Foundation: From local support to global advocacy

  • April 7, 2026

Sustainable Development and Response (STAR) Foundation recently marked two important milestones that reflect both its community-based work in Pakistan and its growing engagement on global platforms. In March 2026, the organisation represented Pakistan at the GNDR Global Summit 2026, where it contributed to international discussions on resilience financing and locally led action. Around the same period, STAR Foundation also led a local Eid support initiative in Tehsil Rera, helping vulnerable families celebrate with greater dignity and relief.

At the GNDR Global Summit 2026, held from 24 to 27 March 2026, STAR Foundation’s senior representative, Zameer Ahmad, joined a high-level panel on new pathways to funding resilience. During the session, the organisation highlighted the importance of locally led financing models, more flexible and accessible funding systems, and stronger support for grassroots organisations navigating complex donor environments. Drawing from its field experience and engagement with the GNDR Local Leadership Academy, STAR Foundation underscored the need to shift communities from being treated as beneficiaries to being recognised as decision-makers in resilience-building processes.

This participation helped amplify STAR Foundation’s voice in global conversations on inclusive financing, climate resilience, and community leadership. It also reinforced the organisation’s commitment to connecting local realities with international policy and funding discussions, while advocating for systems that better support vulnerable communities and locally rooted organisations.

Alongside this global engagement, STAR Foundation also carried out a community support initiative during Eid in Tehsil Rera. Through support mobilised from local philanthropists in response to its Zakat appeal, the organisation provided cash grants of PKR 8,000 each to 50 families across 25 villages in five union councils. The assistance helped families meet essential seasonal needs, including clothes and shoes for children, and brought timely relief during Eid.

The initiative was implemented through a community-driven process, with STAR Foundation working closely with local village committees to identify families most in need. This approach helped ensure fairness, transparency, and trust, while also strengthening community participation in the delivery of support. Families expressed gratitude for the assistance, describing it as a source of dignity, inclusion, and relief during an important festive period.

Together, these two updates reflect STAR Foundation’s approach across scales, combining grassroots action with wider advocacy to support more inclusive, community-led resilience. From supporting families at the local level to contributing to international dialogue on the future of resilience financing, the organisation continues to demonstrate the value of grounded leadership and collective action.
