Most global frameworks, including the Sendai framework put a great emphasis on the need for local action to achieve its set of targets by 2030. Local humanitarian action calls for a coordination mechanism within and across sectors and with relevant stakeholders at all levels while recognising that risks have local and specific characteristics.
An empowered local leadership is best positioned to ensure the frameworks’ effective implementation on the ground. Local leaders can integrate the societal understanding of risks, which are critical for effective disaster risk management at the grassroot level.
A recent report published by the ADRRN Localisation Hub – SEEDS jointly with UNDRR, highlights the stories of some of these local leaders from across Asia-Pacific and the lessons that others could learn from their experiences.
In that light, this call is for you to join us for an important discussion as part of the Resilience Café initiative of SEEDS. We will engage in a conversation on “Local Leadership for Disaster Resilience” with Dr. Krishna Vatsa (Member, National Disaster Management Authority, India), Dr. Animesh Kumar (Officer-in-Charge and Deputy Chief, UNDRR Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific), and Ms. Deicy Silvia Wenas (Founder, The Unspoken Ministry, Indonesia) on November 03, 2020 (Tuesday) at 4:30 PM IST (6 PM Bangkok time).
This is scheduled for an hour and you will be able to join us on this conversation here: https://fb.me/e/1By3fOfm6
