The Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) is returning in 2024, bringing together governments, organisations, and subject experts to address the pressing challenges of climate change and accelerate disaster risk reduction efforts in the region.

Hosted by the Government of the Philippines and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), in Manila from 14 to 18 October 2024, the conference will be held under the working theme “Surge to 2030: Enhancing Ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction”. With the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) 2015-2030 as its guiding principle, it aims to drive progress toward a more disaster-resilient future by focusing on innovative solutions, inclusive governance, and localisation.

As a strong network of civil society organisations from Asia-Pacific, ADRRN is proud to be associated with and participate in the APMCDRR 2024. Working tirelessly and contributing through its anticipatory action and inclusive approaches, ADRRN echoes the mission of making Asia the most resilient region by 2030.

1. Online Consultation Leading Up to the APMCDRR

As the convener of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at the APMCDRR 2024, ADRRN successfully led a consultation to bring together diverse voices and experiences from across the region. Held on 12th September, the goal was to inform key discussions at the conference and ensure that CSO perspectives are reflected in the outcomes.

The consultation focused on:

  • Assessing the progress of the SFDRR implementation.
  • Identifying gaps and needs to ensure successful SFDRR implementation by 2030.
  • Highlighting strengths, opportunities, and areas for mutual support among stakeholders.

Based on the consultation, a CSO Commitment to Action was drafted and endorsed to provide a unified voice and recommendations for strengthening disaster risk reduction efforts in the Asia-Pacific region.
