Realising people recovering from tsunami disaster are living
with risk, ADRRN took an initiative to hold a knowledge sharing
session between its members, local government, experts and
acedemia from and around the region.
We realised that communities living in areas where there
is risk, must learn to be prepared for such an eventuality.
It is crucial to develop partnerships, share knowledge and
expertise among all stakeholders such as the Government, International
Agencies and Organizations, International NGOs, local NGOs
and Communities to reduce risks.
One of the way to implement this process is through the
consultative meeting. The presenters were :
- Enhancing Knowledge & Skills for Safer Aceh - Mr.
Manu Gupta (SEEDS India)
- What is a Safe Building - Mr. Amod Dixit (NSET)
- Introduction to j.Pod - Assoc. Prof A Kobayashi (University
of Kyoto, Japan)
- Plans of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Aceh- Ir.
Teuku Syafrizal (Public Utilities, Banda Aceh)
- Damaged Buildings after the earthquake and tsunami in
Banda Aceh - Ir. Agus Salim (Universiti Syiah Kuala, Aceh)
- MERCY Malaysia Core House Project in Aceh - Norazam Abu
Samah (MERCY Malaysia)
Resolutions from the meeting:
- Cooperation among stakeholders in disaster risk management
and reduction
- Learn from the environmental and cultural history of
the country and the impact of uncontrolled development in

to better understand total disaster risk management

the leading network of agencies focusing on disaster reduction,
