A 7.5 magnitude quake whose epicentre was near the island of Simeulue, 319km (198 miles) off the coast of Sumatra, struck off Indonesia's Aceh province on 20 February 2008. At least three people have been killed and 25 seriously injured by the quake.

Avalanches killed twenty people and 15 others were missing in Indian Kashmir as the heaviest snowfall in recent years brought the Himalayan region to a standstill, officials said on Saturday.

Two people were killed and five more were missing after heavy rainfall triggered a landslide on the Indonesian island of Java, an official said.

HAP is a partnership of member agencies that share a commitment to making humanitarian action accountable to disaster survivors. At the heart of this endeavour lies HAP´s Principles of Accountability.The members of HAP seek to comply with and promote these principles through capacity-building, self-regulation, quality assurance certification and advocacy.

The members of HAP are committed to taking account of the views, needs and capacities of disaster survivors so that the quality and effectiveness of their humanitarian work is improved. The members of the Partnership believe that through such an approach, the design and implementation of their humanitarian work will be strengthened, and that as a consequence, confidence in, and support for HAP´s member agencies will also be enhanced.
