International Conference on School Safety

MIn collaboration with the Gujarat
State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), SEEDS organized
an International Conference on School Safety in Gujarat, Ahmedabad.
The Conference was a three-day event, focusing on strengthening
efforts and provide direction to concerted efforts being made
by governments, civil society organizations, businesses, schools,
teachers and students in reducing risk to disasters in the
community.
The conference was attended by over 150 delegates from 18
countries. Discussions on various aspects of School Safety
ensued over the first two days of the Conference that have
resulted in the framing of the Action Plan, which shall be
circulated among all members as soon it is completed.
The third day of the Conference was a Public Symposium wherein
over 1400 schoolchildren, teachers and principals from the
state of Gujarat and other states of the country participated.
The Public Symposium entailed a panel discussion, a teachers’
workshop, and various activities for the children, such as
a painting competition, an I-Max movie, a street play, and
stalls and exhibitions by the students .
