
CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE BSO INVESTIGATIONS
WORKSHOP
Organisational commitment to:
- uphold or develop a Code of Conduct, or alternatively, adopt
the six standards of the Secretary General’s Bulletin
of October 2003
- implement the Draft IASC Model Complaints and Investigation
Procedures
- partially fund the participation of staff member(s)
- commit to training all staff working with persons of concern
on prevention and response
- make participating staff responsible for conducting investigations
into allegations of staff misconduct within your organisation
- create an enabling and safe environment for staff conducting
investigations
- facilitate the independence of the investigators throughout
the investigation
- contribute to the Project’s evaluation process
- promote diversity - international NGOs must propose equal
numbers of national and international staff and all NGOs must
propose equal numbers of men and women to participate in the
Investigation Learning Programme.
Participant commitment to:
- maintain confidentiality
- remain with sponsoring NGO for another 3 years
- complete and submit the 4 pre-workshop assignments at least
one week prior to the start of the workshop
Participant criteria:
Skills
- excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- ability to be objective
- able to maintain confidentiality while ensuring due process
through an open and transparent case management style
- able to complete projects in timely fashion
- commitment to the protection of persons of concern from
exploitation and abuse, especially women and children
- negotiation skills
- interviewing skills
Experience
- working directly with populations of concern, particularly
women, children or vulnerable adults
- writing reports
- gathering and analysing information and data
- handling complaints
- knowledge of protection and prevention strategies
- managing difficult situations
- middle or senior level NGO staff
