In 2007, Indoensia declared disaster risk reduction as a development priority, and introduced a disaster amangement law. This led to the establishment of National Disaster Mnagement Agency, Local Agency for Disaster Management and Indoensian National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction or PLANAS.
PLANAS, with a vision of “ A nation Resilient to Disasters”, serves as a multi-stakeholder forum for advocacy, co-ordination, consultation and analysis on disaster risk reduction and related policies. With respresentation from academia , private sector , national governments, civil society , media and community groups, it is nationally owned and has a strong leadership. The PLANAS is today led by Forum PT ( University Forum) a non government entity and has a leading say in policy discussions. Consortium of Disaster Education ( CDE) , a thematic group under PLANAS, is primarily responsible for the national strategy to intergrate disaster reduction in formal education. The PLANAS serves as a catalyst for disaster risk management where, through consulatation and consensus , all participants can identify ways of optimizing time , energy and resource allocation. The creation of PLANAS have been a very significant task that has witnessed patient deliberation, persevernce and foresight. An effort to bring in large number of actors together to commit to a national priority.
