The Launching of the National Action Plan for Disaster Reduction 2006-2009

The Indonesian National Development Planning Agecy (Bappenas) launched the Natinoal Action Plan for Disaster Reduction 2006-2009 on January 24 2007. On this occasion MPBI Presidium, Pujiono represented the civil society. The National Action Plan is a good effort in integrating disaster management in the development policy with a realistic target and time line. The platform shows a potential of mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in planning and budgeting with accountability. In this context the civil society support a people centered DRR based on universal values i.e fairness, welfare, sustainable development, protection of civilians against disaster as basic rights. Challenges that will still be faced are: difficulties in the implementation, monitoring, coordination and participation. On January 9, 2007 MPBI organized a workshop to gathering points of view of the civil society at Hotel Arcadia, Jakarta. The result was inserted in the National Action Plan.
