Organizational Activities

As
one of main actors CHA had its important role in initiating
Disaster Risk Reduction Consortium (DRRC) in Afghanistan in
which number of national and international NGO have membership.
CHA also started to work as an active member of Oxfam International
Contingency Planning Consortium in Afghanistan.
CHA started to design a pilot program on Capacity Building for
Community Based Disaster Management. In this program the following
main components are considered:
a) Establishing a Disaster Management Unit (DMU) within CHA
structure to work as a core body for capacity development on
DRR and its institutionalization.
b) Providing training facilities for DMU staff to develop their
capacities as resource team and to work as master trainers.
c) Training of CHA’s managerial and program staff on DM
new concept and on SPHERE standards and ICRC/NGOs Code of Conduct.
d) Mainstreaming of DRR in CHA’s current and future projects
and programs.
e) Develop capacities on community based disaster risk reduction.
f) Working with targeted communities as a pilot project for
participatory assessment of disaster risks and reducing risk
of disaster in our communities.
g) To strengthen our linkages and active participation in DRR
networks.
h) To learn about Afghanistan needs for disaster risk reduction
at community and national level comparing with international
standards; sharing lessons learned and advocate for safer future.
We ensure the development of our DMU members’ capacities
as the first step for achieving the above mentioned objectives.
It would be highly appreciated if we could have your advice
and recommendation for training entities and courses to direct
us to the best applicable direction for achieving this mission
and build our staff capacity as master trainers in the DRR/
DM area. We have some possibilities in this project to invite
good trainers from this region for conducting these kind of
trainings in Kabul- Afghanistan for the staff of our organization
and at least the staff of two other organizations in Afghanistan
have the similar objectives and programs and or send our staff
to attend training courses in other countries in the region.
